The Mountain School 2011 Summer Camp Application

June 20th - August 12th

Morning, Afternoon or Full Day sessions available all weeks for 4-12 yr olds
Hours: 9am-5pm (doors open at 8:30 am and close at 5:30 pm)

For the past four summers, The Mountain School has provided a truly unique day camp experience for Wood River Valley children. Our program provides a first- hand experience to our school’s amazing farm, animals, bountiful gardens and outdoor spaces.  The Mountain School beautifully balances the outdoor aspect by intertwining this with arts, crafts and music.

Throughout the summer our Farming and Permaculture programs introduce the students to simple, ethical and energy efficient living through work with gardening, greenhouse use and animal husbandry.  This practical magic with the school’s resident animals (chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, a jersey cow, and miniature horses) is a deep connection for the young or old child! The Arts program includes: music, drum talk, games, painting, sculpture, drama, movement, drawing and handwork.

Wilderness skills are developed by archery, primitive wilderness skills and exploring. Come play with us on our trails, small creeks and nearby river environment or find daily changes transpiring in the rich garden life. Our indoor environment is as enchanting as our outdoors; with the indoor greenhouse and art room; kitchen for cooking the bounty from the farm and garden; our handmade and natural fiber toys and crafting materials or playing in the cozy fort there are endless discoveries to be made.

The Mountain School’s Summer Camp Program has been instrumental in introducing the school, our idyllic campus and the philosophy of Waldorf education into the community. Join us on the farm for Art, Farm and Wilderness this summer!  We are excited to offer our  specialty camps including Wilderness Camp & Carpentry Camp.  These camps will be offered for specific age groups throughout the summer.  See below for more details & dates.

Wilderness Camps: Join John DeLorenzo, a wilderness mountain man, and learn primitive wilderness skills of shelter building, fire building, fishing, nature orientation, making rope with native vegetation and other outdoor skills.

Carpentry Camps:  Come build with us! You will learn woodworking and carpentry skills to become a true craftsman!

The Mountain School is a non sectarian school for children of ages 4-12. It admits students of any race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities offered to students of the school. . It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, administrative policies, scholarship and loan programs and other school administered programs. In addition, The Mountain School offers a tuition assistance program for families who can demonstrate reasonable need for financial assistance. The school admits students with varying physical, emotional and intellectual abilities who can be reasonably accommodated consistent with the school’s educational goals, pedagogy and resources, as well as with the social integration of the class.

Admission at any level is based on space availability, the student’s age, and an assessment that addresses the student’s needs on several levels including physical emotional and intellectual development. If a student has been previously enrolled in another school, a consultation with the previous teacher and school records will be considered in the admissions process.

Obligations of enrolled families - Parents should be in agreement with and supportive of the school’s philosophy and should be willing to attend the parent orientation meetings and volunteer if a program culminates in a festival or a special event. These festivals are memorable community events for the children and will require 1-2 hours of volunteer help (either the day of or before the event).

No Drug Zone: The school environment has a strict no drug use policy for teachers, staff, students, parents and friends. No alcohol or illicit drugs are allowed for any school related events.

Thank you for joining us for TMS Summer Camps!
