Summer Camp 2009
June 15th - August 7th
Registration begins Tuesday April 21st.
The Mountain School is offering its third year of Summer Camps with Art, Farm, Permaculture and Primitive Wilderness Skills Camp for eight weeks from June 15- August 7, 2008. For 4-12 year olds this is one of the valley’s newest and most unique schools. The Mountain School (TMS) provides an environment that sets the foundation for a life-long love of learning and holistic balanced living. TMS has received financial assistance from The Campfire Foundation to help with families that need assistance. See our application for more information.
Morning, Afternoon and full day options are available for your child to join us for a robust experience. This year we have two specialty camps for 9-12 year olds:
1.) All Day Wilderness camp from July 6-17th. Sign up for one or both weeks with John DeLorenzo and plan on being “in the wild” learning survival tools and techniques.
2.) Afternoon Fashion & Design Camp from July 20st - July 31st is for those interested in uniting sewing, fashion and art and designing their own exclusive outfit. This camp run Monday through Thursday in the Afternoons and then on Friday mornings. There is some flexiblity to not include Friday am.
Throughout the entire summer our Farming and Permaculture programs introduce the students to simple, ethical, and balanced energy-efficient living through work with gardens, greenhouses, animals. This practical magic includes working directly with the schools resident farm animals: chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, rabbits, cows, and miniature horses. The Arts program includes: music, drum talk, games, painting, sculpture, drama games, movement, poetry, drawing and handwork. Crafts from the our goat’s hair and using wool from carding to craft weaves the full cycle of our interdependence with our farm animals.
Wilderness skills are a component of all weeks with exploring, archery and learning amongst the abundant vegetable and flower gardens. Come play with us on our trails, small creeks and nearby river environment. The indoor environment at the school is as enchanting as the outdoor environment with its indoor greenhouse and art room, kitchen for cooking the bounty from the farm and garden, hand-made and natural fiber toys and crafting materials, and a cozy story corner.
TMS is dedicated to building the specific strengths within each child as they develop their fine and gross motor skills, self-expression, and social bonds. It is these opportunities, Waldorf trained teachers and the idyllic environment in which they reside which gives The Mountain School it’s magic.
In addition to the Summer Camps, The Mountain School offers a Mixed Age Morning Program for 4-8 year olds and an After School Program for 4-12 year olds from September through May. While each program offered at the school varies in its structure and schedule, the underlying principals and opportunities for the children to explore, discover, and learn remain the same. Whether your child is attending Summer Camps, the After School Program or The Mixed Age Morning Program they are bound to find a deeply satisfying experience in the exceedingly well-rounded and inspiring natural environment of The Mountain School.
